DAY 3:
PACAYMAYU / PUYUPATAMARCA / WIÑAYHUAYNA (INKA TRAIL)
This
is the most interesting and impressive day of the trek, due
to the number of archaeological sites we’ll visit. From Pacaymayu we’ll climb
to the second pass, the Runkurakay pass (3,970 msnm this site is located at 3,800 m.a.s.l. and
consists in a small oval structure that was created as a
watch tower. Then we will descend towards Yanacocha (black
lagoon) and we’ll penetrate the cloud forest to arrive to
Sayacmarca (3,624 msnm). This a beautiful complex build in a
semicircular construction with several levels, narrow
streets and liturgic fountains, patios and irrigation
channels. Continuing on an easy will reach the third pass of
Phuyupatamarca (3,700 msnm) this is one of the most complete
and well preserved archaeological sites we’ll find in the
highest point of the mountain Phuyupatamarca means “La Nube sobre
la Ciudad”, we’ll continue walk down until Wiñayhuayna
(2,700 msnm). In this place we take a shower with hot water.
At 5
minutes from the campsite is the archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna consisting of an agricultural center with
several terraces.

stoned Inka sidewalk just on the border of the cliffs from
where we’ll see the dawn over the Machupicchu citadel.
